The College of Wooster scored a pair of goals less than two minutes apart midway through the second half to break out to a 3-0 lead at Wittenberg University Saturday afternoon, and the Fighting Scots went on to secure a 4-1 victory over their North Coast Athletic Conference rivals in Springfield, Ohio.

After losing its first three games all by one goal, including the last two in overtime, Wooster (1-3, 1-1 NCAC) got in the win column, thanks to the offensive exploits of Nikki Sever, Clare Nelson-Johnson, and Kate Brondyk and a defense that only yielded three total shots.

The opening 25 minutes saw very few offensive opportunities for either squad (three combined shots), but then Sever converted an opening from short range for what turned out to be the only goal of the half.

The scoring chances picked up during the second half, and about 20 minutes in, Sever scored again, this time courtesy of an assist by Nelson-Johnson for a 2-0 advantage. The Fighting Scots made it a three-goal game 1:45 later when Nelson-Johnson drove her fifth goal of the season in off a Brondyk pass.

Wittenberg (0-4, 0-2 NCAC) struck less than two minutes later, scoring on its only shot of the half.

Wooster closed the win out, with Brondyk even adding an unassisted goal with :08 remaining.

Overall, the Scots outshot the Tigers 16-3 and recorded eight more penalty corners (10-2).

Next, Wooster will be at Washington & Jefferson College (2-0) for a night game on Wednesday.
