WOOSTER, Ohio – In a defensive battle Sunday afternoon at John P. Papp Stadium, DePauw University scored on one of the few offensive opportunities for either side to prevail 1-0 over The College of Wooster in North Coast Athletic Conference field hockey action.

Wooster (3-4, 2-2 NCAC) possessed the ball the majority of the time during the first half, but the two squads combined for just five shots and they went into the half scoreless.

In the second, DePauw (5-1, 3-0 NCAC) began to assert its attack, earning a series of penalty corners. On their fifth corner of the half, Chelsea Cutler drove the ball to the top of the circle, Margaret Ellis calmly settled it and sent the ball knee-high through the defense into the right side of the cage for a 1-0 advantage with 16:18 remaining.

The Fighting Scots' best chance all game came late in regulation, but a Clare Nelson-Johnson run into the box and shot was stopped by the Tigers.

Goalie Carrie Mount kept Wooster within striking distance throughout with seven saves.

The Scots will be at Ohio Wesleyan University (1-3, 0-2 NCAC) on Wednesday at 4:30 p.m.
