WOOSTER, Ohio – The College of Wooster scored twice during an opening flurry of offensive chances and went on to hand Kenyon College its first North Coast Athletic Conference this year in emphatic fashion, as the Fighting Scots prevailed 4-0 Thursday at a cool, wet John P. Papp Stadium.

Wooster (4-5, 3-3 NCAC) put a series of shots towards the cage during the opening 12-plus minutes, nine to be exact, and the ninth found its mark. During a penalty corner, Nikki Sever delivered the ball to the top of the circle where Anna Divis passed it over to Shelby Stone on the right wing, then Stone sent it back to Divis, who found an opening on the right side for a 1-0 lead. It marked the senior midfielder's first goal of the season.

The Scots continued to pressure Kenyon (6-3, 5-1 NCAC) and that paid off in a second score 2:45 later. Following a long pass from midfield, Sever collected the ball, entered the circle from the left wing, and drove a hard shot to the right post, which was deflected in by Isabelle Howes for the goal.

It remained 2-0 the rest of the first half, with Wooster holding a 14-4 shot advantage at the break.

At the outset of the second, the majority of the action took place in the middle of the field. About midway through there was a scramble five yards in front of the Ladies' cage, when Clare Nelson-Johnson was able to gain possession and quickly push the ball into the right side of the goal for a 3-0 advantage.

The Scots added an insurance goal with 8:38 remaining. While Nelson-Johnson scored the goal, it was Sever who created it as she dribbled through the defense down the right end line and sent a cross right to her senior teammate who finished the play for her 11th tally this fall.

Defensively, Carrie Mount went the distance in goal for Wooster, which outshot Kenyon 23-8 overall. Rarely challenged, she made five saves for the first complete shutout of her career.

The Scots will be back in action Saturday morning at Oberlin College (2-5, 1-5 NCAC).
