WOOSTER, Ohio – The College of Wooster seemed comfortably ahead, leading Ohio Wesleyan University 3-0 with less than 16 minutes remaining in their North Coast Athletic Conference field hockey match-up Wednesday at John P. Papp Stadium, but the Battling Bishops scored three times, including two goals in the final 3:25, to send the game into overtime, during which they completed the comeback for a 4-3 victory.

Wooster (8-7, 7-5 NCAC) received first-half goals from Nikki Sever, Kate Brondyk, and Isabelle Howes. Sever started the scoring when her crossing attempt from the right end line deflected off a back of Ohio Wesleyan (9-6, 7-5 NCAC) and into the cage midway through the stanza.

Less than three minutes later, Brondyk brought the ball just inside the circle and delivered a shot to the lower left that founds its mark, and the score remained 2-0 deep into the half. The Fighting Scots gained further momentum when Howes charged in from the right wing and converted a long pass from Katie Furbee on a shot to the far post with just :04 on the clock.

While the Battling Bishops were getting more offensive looks in the second half, the three-goal cushion stood until 15:32 to play when Venessa Menerey rebounded in her own shot for a score.

Wooster continued to lead 3-1 under the four-minute mark. Then, Ohio Wesleyan earned a couple of penalty corners, converting the second on a blast off the stick of Montana Knapp. Another corner resulted in the tying score with less than a minute to go, this time Knapp playing a backhand to the front of the cage where Jenna Ortega controlled a deflection and touched it in to even the score.

During the overtime, the Scots survived one flurry with goalkeeper Carrie Mount making two of her seven saves on the day. However, the Bishops took advantage of another corner as Knapp slid a pass to Ortega, who continued the ball's path to the left, and Lauren Bailey notched the game-winner on a waist-high shot inside the near post.

Next, Wooster will host non-league foe Transylvania University (1-11) on Sunday at 1 p.m.
