WOOSTER, Ohio – The College of Wooster field hockey team outshot Transylvania University 33-3, but it was the visiting Pioneers who walked from Andrew Turf Field at John P. Papp Stadium with a surprising 2-1 non-conference win Sunday afternoon.

Wooster (8-8), which also owned a 20-3 advantage in penalty corners, dominated possession throughout and got on the board fairly early when Nikki Sever, positioned right in the center of the circle, appeared to attempt a pass to the far post that was deflected in by a defender 11:20 into the action.

The Fighting Scots continued to pressure Transylvania (2-13), racking up 17 of their shot attempts, including a penalty stroke, and 11 corners during the first half. However, the Pioneers changed the complexion of the game right before halftime, earning their first corner and scoring off of it as Brittany Rebalsky's drive from the left wing towards the right post found its way into the cage with 3:45 remaining.

In the second, Wooster took the first nine shots to no avail. Then, Transylvania forced back-to-back penalty corners, converting the second on a Sara Clark goal, assisted by Kerri Kolarik.

For the final 23:57, the Scots were on the offensive, desperately trying to get back on the scoreboard but the Pioneers' defense made their lead hold up with goalie Sara Aschbacher finishing with 17 saves.

Wooster returns to North Coast Athletic Conference play on Tuesday afternoon when it travels to Kenyon College (8-8, 7-5 NCAC).
