WOOSTER, Ohio – The College of Wooster scored three times in about 15 minutes of game action, spanning the end of the first half and beginning of the second, and it kept Transylvania University off of the scoreboard throughout, as the Fighting Scots prevailed 3-0 during Sunday afternoon's non-league field hockey tilt at John P. Papp Stadium.

Wooster (2-3) controlled possession the majority of the game's opening 20-plus minutes, but was unable to get a real good look at the cage. That changed when Shelby Stone sent a ball into the circle, which deflected off a defender, then Kayla O'Connor settled it near the right end line and centered to Taylor Thorp, who scored.

Thorp finished another opportunity just 3:04 later. She collected a through ball up the middle of the field from Leah Prescott, quickly drove into the circle, and beat the 'keeper with a shot to the left.

Shortly into the second half, the Scots extended their lead to three. Following a penalty corner, they kept possession and pushed it back into the circle where the ball was eventually controlled by Kerry O'Connor, who lifted it past the 'keeper and inside the right post.

With the outcome pretty much intact, the only question became a matter of whether the Wooster defense would complete the shutout. Junior Emily Dean-McKinney helped the cause with a big defensive save during a Transylvania (1-4) penalty corner, and late in the game during another corner, a Pioneers' shot deflected off the post, which allowed Scot goalie Carrie Mount to compete her second career shutout. Mount made two saves.

Wooster has another non-conference game on Wednesday night at Washington & Jefferson College (5-1).
