The College of Wooster field hockey team used a strong defensive effort and timely goal from Taylor Thorp to complete a season sweep of Ohio Wesleyan University on Thursday, prevailing 1-0 in the North Coast Athletic Conference foes' meeting at Delaware, Ohio.

Wooster (6-6, 4-4 NCAC) edged Ohio Wesleyan (5-8, 2-7 NCAC) by a 2-1 count earlier this fall, and the two teams settled into another defensive battle Thursday. It was scoreless at halftime, thanks in part to a defensive save by the Fighting Scots' Anjela Galimberti midway through the first, and moments later, when a Battling Bishops' penalty stroke was denied by the left post.

The score still stood 0-0 when Wooster earned its ninth penalty corner of the game with approximately 15 minutes left in regulation. After the corner, Leah Prescott controlled the ball in the middle of the circle, pushed it ahead to Thorp, who drove in her fourth goal of the year.

Goalkeeper Carrie Mount and the Scot defense made the score hold up, weathering a strong push from Ohio Wesleyan. The Bishops accounted for five shots and two corners over the final six minutes of action, with Mount tallying one of her four saves on the day to preserve the shutout and win.

On Saturday, Wooster will be at archrival Wittenberg University (5-7, 4-4 NCAC) in a game with likely postseason implications on the line.
