In a game both teams likely had marked on their calendars due to its postseason implications, The College of Wooster and Wittenberg University added another highly-competitive battle to their rivalry, but ultimately, the Tigers scored a go-ahead goal in the 58th minute and hung on to secure a 3-2 victory over the Fighting Scots in a key North Coast Athletic Conference match-up at Springfield, Ohio.

Wittenberg (6-7, 5-4 NCAC) took a 1-0 lead 6:26 into the action, but Wooster (6-7, 4-5 NCAC) knotted the score up at one apiece about midway through the first half. The equalizer came when Kerry O'Connor ripped a shot that went wide right and teammate Taylor Thorp was there to collect the miss and push it past the goalkeeper. It was Thorp's fifth tally of the season and second in as many games.

The scoring picked back up in the second half, as once again Wittenberg scored early in a stanza to take a 2-1 advantage. About 15 minutes later, at the 55:25 mark, the Scots earned a penalty stroke and made it count, as Shelby Stone rattled the cage to tie the game at 2-2.

Just over two minutes after Wooster's game-tying goal, the Tigers again regained control. This time, 'keeper Carrie Mount saved a shot, one of 13 on the day, only to see a Wittenberg player corral the deflected ball and score a rebound goal that held up as the winner.

The Scots earned two penalty corners down the stretch, and got off two shot attempts, including one from Stone that required a save, but the Tigers withstood the attack to preserve a one-goal triumph.

Next up, Wooster takes a break from NCAC competition to host non-conference opponent Bethany College (3-7) on Wednesday at 4:30 p.m.
