Midfielder Megan McGinley celebrated "Senior Day" by helping Wooster to a decisive victory.

WOOSTER, Ohio – The College of Wooster scored three times during an 8:47 span of the first half and cruised to a 4-0 North Coast Athletic Conference field hockey win over Earlham College while celebrating "Senior Day" on Saturday afternoon at John P. Papp Stadium.

It did not take long for Wooster (8-7, 5-5 NCAC) to gain control, thanks in large part to sophomore twin sisters Kayla O'Connor and Kerry O'Connor. First, the latter scored her third goal of the season on a shot near the left post, assisted by her sister 6:28 into the match, and less than five minutes later, the former touched in a pass by the right post from her sister for her eighth goal.

The Scots kept up the pressure and lit up the scoreboard again when sophomore Leah Prescott rattled the cage, connecting on a feed from senior Taylor Thorp, to make it 3-0 just 15:15 into play. It was Prescott's sixth goal this year.

Senior Claire Moffett nearly made it 4-0 late in the first half, but a defensive save by Tara Burns of Earlham (0-14, 0-10 NCAC) kept the margin at three going into the halftime break.

Wooster peppered the Quakers with 14 shots during the second half, but some solid defense by the visitors, including another Burns' defensive save, allowed them to keep the margin somewhat close. The Scots did break through for a late goal, appropriately coming from a senior as Thorp deflected in a pass from Anjela Galimberti during a penalty corner. Thorp matched Kayla O'Connor with her eighth goal.

Overall, Wooster outshot Earlham 28-3, and goalies Carrie Mount and Danielle Slichenmyer combined for the shutout without being forced to make a save.

Recognized prior to the game for their efforts the last four years were Thorp, who has totaled 52 career points (22 goals, 8 assists), Megan McGinley and Shelby Stone, a pair of two-year starters in the midfield, Mount, who has started two seasons in goal, and Moffett, who has steadily developed into a key forward as a senior.

The Scots will be at home again on Sunday, welcoming No. 17 ranked DePauw University (12-2, 8-2 NCAC) to John P. Papp Stadium for a noon start.
