The College of Wooster used an early goal from Kerry O'Connor to take a 1-0 lead, and then maintained control over Denison University until midway through the second half, but the Big Red scored twice over a 5:29 span to notch a comeback victory against the Fighting Scots, 2-1, on Wednesday afternoon at Granville, Ohio.

This game wasn't like the one the two teams played earlier this season, when Denison (10-5, 9-3 NCAC) won 4-0, as the Scots (8-9, 5-8 NCAC) got on the scoreboard first and held an advantage into the latter parts of the contest.

Around seven minutes into the action, the Scots earned a penalty corner, which was settled by Anjela Galimberti, who passed to Kayla O'Connor, who dished to her sister Kerry for her fourth goal of the season which made it 1-0 at the onset.

Kayla O'Connor's attempt to extend the lead to two goals was denied, as she fired off a shot just before halftime that was blocked by a defender.

Two more Wooster shot attempts by Kerry O'Connor and Taylor Thorp early in the second half also deflected off defenders, and shortly after that Denison became the aggressor. Goalkeeper Carrie Mount was ready for the challenge, as she turned away a point-blank shot attempt from a player on a fast break to keep Denison off the board momentarily.

The Big Red kept attacking, though, and finally broke through, as they scored off a penalty corner and then on a difficult shot from just inside the shooting circle to go ahead 2-1 in the 56th minute.

The Scots had a chance to tie it late, but Shelby Stone's shot attempt, much like the others, was cut off by the defense, and Denison hung on for a narrow North Coast Athletic Conference triumph.

Mount continued her strong play for Wooster, with a career-high 15 saves in the setback. She had 13 saves over the weekend against DePauw University.

Next, the Scots head to Oberlin College (2-10, 2-9 NCAC) on Friday for a 4 p.m. start.
