The College of Wooster twice bounced back from single-goal deficits, but was still tripped up by Bethany College 3-2 in double overtime as the two teams made their 2015 debut in non-conference field hockey action Tuesday afternoon at Bethany, W. Va.

Wooster (0-1), with six new starters in the lineup, including three first-years, may have suffered from some opening-game jitters, as it allowed a Bethany goal about five minutes into the action. The Fighting Scots quickly answered, scoring four minutes later when Rachel Wetzel delivered a feed right in front of the net to Leah Prescott, who completed the opportunity to tie it 1-1.

After two goals within the opening 10 minutes, neither team scored again until the midway point of the second half. The Bison regained the lead, and similar to the first half, Wooster immediately responded, as Prescott delivered a rebound goal 83 seconds after the hosts' score.

The Scots outshot Bethany 11-6 during the second half, including by a 4-1 margin after the score was tied again, however, they could not punch in the go-ahead goal.

Wooster goalie Danielle Slichenmyer made four of her nine saves in the first 15-minute overtime session to extend the game.

Then, the Scots dominated most of the play during the second overtime, taking four shots, three on goal, before the Bison's TJ Solomon came through with the game-winner during a penalty corner.

Statistically, Prescott and Wetzel combined for 13 of Wooster's 22 shots, and in addition to Slichenmyer's nine saves, Emma Roderick was credited with a defensive save.

The Scots will look to get into the win column this weekend when they take part in the St. Jude Classic, hosted by Rhodes College in Memphis, Tenn.
