For the second game in a row, and the fourth time this season, The College of Wooster field hockey team came up on the short end in overtime, this time dropping a heartbreaker to Ohio Wesleyan University 3-2 late in the North Coast Athletic Conference tilt's first extra session Wednesday afternoon at Selby Stadium in Delaware, Ohio.

The teams began the game with a scoring flurry, as all four goals in regulation occurred within the opening 16 minutes of play. After Ohio Wesleyan (7-8, 5-6 NCAC) netted one about five minutes in, Wooster (3-13, 2-9 NCAC) countered with back-to-back scores during a 2:08 time period.

First, Lauren Abbott took a long run into the circle and fired a shot into the back of the cage, marking her second goal this season and tying the game 1-1. The Fighting Scots then made good use of a penalty corner, as Anjela Galimberti knocked in a rebound off an initial blocked shot by Leah Prescott. For Galimberti, one of the team's top defensive players, it was her first goal this year.

About four minutes later, the Battling Bishops evened the scoreboard, with Haley Savoie assisting a Courtney Peterson goal.

The two teams went back-and-forth throughout the rest of regulation, piling up 49 shots in all – 27 for Ohio Wesleyan to Wooster's 22 – but nobody could break the tie. The Scots' Danielle Slichenmyer registered 10 of her 11 saves in regulation, as she notched her sixth game with a double-digit total, while the Bishops' goalie had significant help from her back line with four defensive saves being recorded.

It looked like there would be a second overtime, but with 1:59 remaining in the first, a Savoie run into the circle resulted in the game-winner.

Next, Wooster will be at rival Wittenberg University (5-9, 5-5 NCAC) on Saturday afternoon.
