Wooster Wins in Regulation With 4-2 Triumph Over Transylvania

 Erika Womack

No overtime was needed on Sunday as The College of Wooster field hockey team used a strong finish to the first half to top host Transylvania University 4-2 in Lexington, Ky.

Caroline Patrick gave the hosts (1-11) an early 1-0 lead just over four minutes into the contest. But after that, Wooster (5-13) took over offensively.

First, Lauren Abbott connected midway through the first stanza to tie the contest at one. The tally marked Abbott's third of the year moving her into a tie for fourth on the team.

Just over 10 minutes later, senior Anjela Galimberti connected for the second time this season to give Wooster the 2-1 advantage. Wooster would strike again 25 seconds later with Leah Prescott, yesterday's overtime hero, setting up Erika Womack for Womack's sixth goal of the season.

Transylvania cut Wooster's led to one with just over 13 minutes remaining when Jessica Chandler punched in a shot. Wooster's Rose Taylor added an insurance goal for the Scots with 13 seconds remaining to squash any chance of a comeback.

Danielle Slichenmyer finished with six saves in the win.

Of note, today's contest snapped a string of three-straight overtime games for the Scots.

Wooster will be on the road again Wednesday for a 4:30 p.m. tilt at North Coast Athletic Conference foe Denison University (11-6, 9-3 NCAC).
