Heartbreak in Delaware, as Scots Fall 2-1 in Overtime

Ciara O'Connor College of Wooster field hockey DELAWARE, Ohio – Ohio Wesleyan University's Meghan Knee walked-off The College of Wooster field hockey team with a goal with 57 seconds remaining in overtime, as the Fighting Scots suffered a heartbreaking 2-1 loss on Wednesday afternoon at Selby Stadium.

Wooster (5-5, 1-2 North Coast Athletic Conference) was kept in check offensively with just one shot attempt over the first three periods. The O'Connor sisters turned the tide around in the fourth, thanks to sophomore Ciara O'Connor, who tipped in a shot from senior Caitlyn O'Connor, and that tied the game at one with under 10 minutes remaining.

Both teams had a game-winning chance in the final minute of regulation. Wooster first-year Ashley Reynolds' shot sailed wide, while on the other end, junior 'keeper Zoë Semersky made one of her career-high 14 saves in the final 10 seconds.

Defensively, Wooster was tested at the start of overtime, with Ohio Wesleyan (6-3, 3-1 NCAC) firing off four shots and earning a penalty corner in the first 90 seconds. Knee eventually connected, with her winner from the right side deflecting off a Scots' defender on its way into the cage.

Wooster found its footing just past the midway point of the extra period, but couldn't convert on one of its four overtime shot attempts.

Emily Streeter tipped in a ball that was played forward off of a corner for Ohio Wesleyan's first goal of the contest, with that score coming in the second period.

Wooster finished with 15 saves in the contest, 14 from Semersky, and a defensive one by junior Clare Leithauser. OWU's Meg McCarthy had one save on the day.

Ohio Wesleyan outshot Wooster 31-8, and the Battling Bishops had a 17-4 edge on penalty corners.

Next, Wooster's at NCAC co-leading Earlham College (11-1, 2-0 NCAC) for a noon contest on Saturday, October 16.
