Schuster’s OT Goal Sends Scots Home Happy

Schuster GREENCASTLE, Ind. – The College of Wooster field hockey team took advantage of a penalty corner in the second overtime to defeat DePauw University 2-1 on Sunday.

The Scots were in jeopardy of losing their third straight game by just one goal, but Syd Schuster had other plans, scoring both goals for the Scots. They return from Indiana having gone 1-1 this weekend.

In the second overtime, the Scots earned back-to-back penalty corners. On the first, Jill Murray had a pass get through, but the Scots could not capitalize on the opportunity. However, that awarded them another penalty corner.

On that one, Ciara O'Connor found Schuster who scored from the top right side of the circle to give the Scots the win.

Schuster scored earlier unassisted in the 22nd minute to give Wooster a 1-0 lead which stood for most of the game. DePauw knotted it at one in the 59th minute behind a goal from Maria Hewitt.

Wooster outshot the Tigers 17-12 and took the only three shots of the second overtime. Wooster also had six penalty corners with two coming in the second overtime as well.

Zoë Semersky collected the win in the cage and made six saves. Her counterpart, Bella Lauber, made seven saves.

Wooster improves to 6-6 overall and 2-3 in the North Coast Athletic Conference. DePauw drops to 4-9 and 2-3 in conference play.

The Scots return home Friday when they host Oberlin College in another NCAC matchup.
