Agatucci Scores Three in Wooster's 6-0 Win Over Oberlin

Katie Agatucci College of Wooster field hockey WOOSTER, Ohio – A four-goal second period broke Friday evening's showcase wide open, as The College of Wooster field hockey team evened its North Coast Athletic Conference record with a 6-0 rout of Oberlin College at John P. Papp Stadium.

Senior Syd Schuster made it 2-0 1:33 into the second period. The Scots' forward intercepted a pass, dribbled inside the circle, then ripped a shot that hit off a Yeowomen (0-14, 0-6 NCAC) defender's stick and the 'keepers stick before eventually crossing the goal line. Schuster's second goal made it 4-0 in the 23rd minute. The sociology major connected on a one-timer after receiving a crossing pass from sophomore Ciara O'Connor.

Later, Schuster played distributor when senior Katie Agatucci broke free from the defense. Agatucci buried the fast-break attempt to up the lead to 5-0 with just north of a minute left in the first half. Agatucci was already etched on the night's goal ledger prior to the fast-break score, as the statistical and data sciences major tapped in a goal earlier in the second. O'Connor earned the assist on that play, thanks to deflecting the crossing pass from the wing to Agatucci.

O'Connor's busy night on the offensive end started in the 10th minute, when senior Caitlyn O'Connor found her sister in front of the cage, and the younger O'Connor spun and deposited the night's first goal.

Agatucci ended the night with a hat trick, with her shot in the 56th minute having just enough mustard on it to squirt through the Yeowomen's 'keeper plus two defenders who tried to converge for a defensive save.

Agatucci had a six-point night, while Schuster and Ciara O'Connor added five and four points, respectively, to their season hauls.

Wooster (7-6, 3-3 NCAC) outshot Oberlin 29-2. Juniors Zoë Semersky and Lucy Segal each played 30 minutes in goal for the combined shutout.

Notable, Wooster's goals marked a season-high and the most since the Scots had six against Concordia University Wisconsin in 2019. Coincidentally, Agatucci scored a hat trick in that contest.
