Wooster's Season Comes to a Close

Katie Agatucci College of Wooster Field Hockey WOOSTER, Ohio – The College of Wooster's field hockey season wrapped up on Saturday afternoon, as visiting Kenyon College shut out the Fighting Scots 2-0 at John P. Papp Stadium.

Wooster (7-9, 3-5 North Coast Athletic Conference) needed a win to stay in the hunt for a spot in next week's four-team NCAC Tournament. With its win, Kenyon (13-4, 7-1 NCAC) clinched at least a share of the NCAC title, and the Ladies earned the top seed for the tourney.

Kenyon's Grace Lane had a 1-on-1 matchup with Wooster junior Zoë Semersky about midway through the first period, and the Scots' goalkeeper turned aside three consecutive shots before Lane was whistled for a foul, which wiped out any further scoring threats. Four of Semersky's game-high seven saves came in the first, with Bella Kern getting denied with just over two minutes left in the quarter.

Wooster just missed a look at the back post early in the second when a crossing pass did not connect, and later Caitlyn O'Connor fired off the Scots' lone shot that was on target.

Kern's third-period rebound opened the scoring in the 42nd minute, while in the fourth, Lydia Turk's shot from about nine yards out provided the insurance. Turk's score marked the lone shot attempted in the final period on either side.

Kenyon outshot Wooster 12-3 and the Ladies enjoyed an 8-2 edge on penalty corners.

Payton Doan had the clean sheet for Wooster.

Prior to the game, the Scots recognized their four seniors – Katie Agatucci, O'Connor, Syd Schuster, Katie Thompson, and student manager Wyatt Shafer.
