Wooster Bounces Back, Wins 4-1 at Earlham

Claire Leithauser, Wooster field hockey RICHMOND, Indiana – Four different Fighting Scots scored, and The College of Wooster field hockey team won its first game of 2022 4-1 over host Earlham College on Saturday afternoon at Darrell Beane Stadium. The win marked the first for Jomara Coghlan as head coach of the Fighting Scots.

Wooster (1-1) asserted itself in the second period. First-year Reece Tomechak's first collegiate goal broke a 1-1 tie in the 18th minute. On the play, the first-year redirected a feed from the wing from junior Ciara O'Connor. Tomechak returned the favor just over eight minutes later, finding O'Connor near the cage, and the Scots' forward upped the lead to 3-1. Junior Olivia Nengel scored on a rebound just before halftime, with that goal closing out the game's scoring.

First-year Mary Johnson redirected a cross into the cage for the day's first goal in the fifth minute, while Earlham's (0-3) Regan Seeman tied the game in the 10th minute.

Wooster outshot Earlham 14-11 and had five more corners than the Quakers.

First-year Cate Barkdoll collected collegiate win number one with four saves. Her counterpart, Rachel Alma, had five saves.

Wooster has a quick turnaround, with Shenandoah University (3-0) visiting John P. Papp Stadium for a noon contest on Sunday, September 11.
