Scots Drop Homestand Opener

Maddie Peek, Wooster field hockey WOOSTER, Ohio – Marian University's (Wisconsin) Jikke Biemans netted a hat trick to lead the visiting Sabres past the host College of Wooster field hockey team on Sunday morning at John P. Papp Stadium.

Marian's (4-2) Allyson Nichols scored the first goal of the day in the 20th minute. The Sabres' forward sped past Wooster's (3-7) defense, played the ball ahead, and then worked it around Fighting Scots' 'keeper Cate Barkdoll prior to depositing it into the goal. Nichols found Biemans in the 26th minute on an odd-player rush to the cage, with that goal making it 2-0.

Wooster pulled within 2-1 in the 43rd minute on first-year Mary Johnson's team-leading fifth goal of the year. Junior Maddie Peek crossed the ball to Johnson for the score.

Biemans scored twice on penalty-corner inserts in the fourth period.

Wooster certainly had its chances, evidenced by a 23-9 lead on shots and a 10-6 advantage on penalty corners. Marian's Brenna Abrahamson made eight saves to keep the Scots playing from behind.

Wooster (0-1 North Coast Athletic Conference), in the midst of its second four-game homestand of the year, returns to action against Earlham College (0-10, 0-0 NCAC) at noon on Saturday, October 8.
