Despite Score, Scots Keep Battling Bishops in Check

Clare Leithauser, Wooster Field Hockey WOOSTER, Ohio – North Coast Athletic Conference leading goal scorer Allie Crawford was in the right place at the right time twice, and those instances were the only scores of the night in Ohio Wesleyan University's 2-0 win over The College of Wooster field hockey team.

Crawford's first goal of the contest came 49 seconds into the second half. Ohio Wesleyan's (12-2, 5-1 NCAC) Emily Streeter's initial shot was stopped by Wooster (6-10, 1-4 NCAC) senior Zoë Semersky, but Crawford knocked in the rebound for goal 12 of the year. The second goal came in the 47th minute when a cross to the post redirected off Cate Kuhlman's stick and made its way to the post to Crawford.

Despite the score, Wooster's defense turned in a respectable effort. Ohio Wesleyan was held below its season scoring average of 3.61 goals per game, a total that ranked 24th nationally entering the day. Semersky kept Ohio Wesleyan from climbing closer to its average by knocking a shot from Emma Wright that was near shoulder height out of midair in the 53rd minute. On the night, Semersky finished with five saves.

The Battling Bishops had just 11 shots, a total less than half of their 27 per-game average coming into the contest. The Scots yielded six penalty corners, another total below the 11.69 average Ohio Wesleyan sported entering play.

Ohio Wesleyan, which has allowed a Div. III-leading one goal on the year, posted its 12th shutout of the season.

Next, Wooster's off to Kenyon College (7-7, 2-4 NCAC) for a noon contest on Saturday, October 22.
