Scots Unable to Keep Up With Owls

Delaney Gross, Wooster field hockey GAMBIER, Ohio – Host Kenyon College scored on five of its 13 shots, which enabled the host Owls to cruise past the Fighting Scots' field hockey team 5-0 on Saturday afternoon at the Field at Benson Bowl.

Carolyn Herbosa scored from the top of the circle following a penalty corner insert from Kiersten Hoffmann just 3:24 into the contest. Hoffmann etched a goal to the scoresheet for Kenyon (8-7, 3-4 North Coast Athletic Conference) in the 11th minute.

Wooster's (6-11, 1-5 NCAC) attempt late in the first period to half its deficit was denied. Junior Maddie Peek's shot following a corner insertion from junior Delaney Gross sailed wide, then Owls' 'keeper Payton Doan stopped a shot by senior Lucy Agurkis. Those were the Scots' two shots of the contest.

Grace Lane blasted a shot from the top of the circle that deflected off a Wooster stick before entering the goal, which made it 3-0 in the 22nd minute. Bella Kern and Lana Stone tacked on second-half goals for the Owls.

Kenyon totaled nine penalty corners to Wooster's two. Seniors Zoë Semersky and Lucy Segal made two saves for Wooster, while the Owls upped their shutout total to six on the year.

Next, Wooster has its final home game of the year. That is scheduled for Wednesday, October 26 when Allegheny College (12-4, 3-3 NCAC) visits John P. Papp Stadium for a 7 p.m. clash.
