Senior Salute - Clare Leithauser

Clare Leithauser, Q&A Throughout the spring semester we are honoring our senior student-athletes with a "Senior Salute" series. Today's featured senior is Clare Leithauser, a political science major from Granville, Ohio. Leithauser is a member of the field hockey and women's lacrosse teams.

Q: Why did you chose to attend The College of Wooster?
A: I decided to come to Wooster because I knew I wanted a liberal arts education and also wanted to play lacrosse. Wooster provided both the opportunity to get a great education and play on a great lacrosse team.

Q: What does being a Fighting Scot student-athlete mean to you?
A: Being a Fighting Scot student-athlete means knowing I constantly have teammates, coaches, administrators, and other individuals who support me. It also means I have a unique opportunity to play two sports that I really enjoy.

Q: What are some of your favorite memories as a student at The College of Wooster?
A: My favorite memories are the times when I was able to casually hang out with my friends and teammates. Long sits in Lowry after dinner, hanging out in the Scot Center between lifts and practices, doing puzzles and playing card games in hotel lobbies, and all the little moments when we were able to get to know each other.

Q: What is the best part of being a student-athlete at The College of Wooster?
A: My teammates. They all bring so many different qualities to our team and make me enjoy coming to practice every day.

Q: What else are you involved with on campus besides your sport?
A: I am a member of the Student-Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC), work in the Scot Center, and am a member of the Goodwill service house

Q: Which College of Wooster faculty or staff member has made the greatest impact on you and why?
A: Both of my coaches, Coach (Elizabeth) Ford and Coach (Jomara) Coghlan, have had the greatest impact on me. They both taught me how to work hard and deal with adversity which are both skills I will take with me after I graduate.

Q: What other people or resources impacted your Wooster experience in a positive way and how did these people and resources set you up to be successful at Wooster?
A: APEX (Wooster's center for Advising, Planning, and Experiential Learning) has been very helpful for me with the process for getting internships and job. They provided great advice with how to look for opportunities, write cover letters, and other application tips.

Q: Tell us a bit about your Independent Study project?
A: I am looking at how regime type and respect for human rights impact the amount of foreign direct investment states receive when they are the host of the Olympics.

Q: Tell us a bit about something cool you did as a student at The College of Wooster?
A: I have been able to travel to multiple states I had never been to before as a result of playing sports at The College of Wooster. I have been able to explore Lake Michigan, Little Rock, Arkansas, and Birmingham, Alabama

Q: Reflecting back on your time at Wooster, what advice would you give your first-year self?
A: Don't be afraid to go places and try new things even if you are the only one you know going.
