Third Straight Final Score 1-0 For Wooster Field Hockey

Cate Barkdoll, Wooster Field Hockey GREENCASTLE, Indiana – One to nothing has been the theme of late for The College of Wooster field hockey team, which played in its third straight 1-0 game on Saturday afternoon at DePauw University. DePauw won this one, and Wooster has dropped both North Coast Athletic Conference contests and won its lone non-conference game during the stretch of 1-0 finishes.

DePauw (5-3, 2-0 NCAC) got its goal on a shot from the top from Maggie Volpe following a penalty corner insert in the 14th minute. Wooster (2-2, 0-2 NCAC) sophomore Cate Barkdoll stopped the other nine shots that were on target, and in doing so, nearly tripled the 2023 save count. In fact, Barkdoll's nine saves tied a career-high, matching the save total from last year's game at Wittenberg University.

Wooster sophomore Natalie Katzenmeyer's chance at the equalizer hit off the post in the 25th minute, and classmate Mary Johnson's chance went wide in the 52nd minute.

One of Wooster's biggest defensive stands came late in the first half. DePauw put two shots on target in the 27th minute, and Barkdoll came up big both times. On the first, the Scots' sophomore made a diving stop on an Amy Apfelbaum shot from about four yards in front of the cage. Apfelbaum worked the ball in between Wooster's defense and the Scots' goalie. Seconds later, Barkdoll knocked Charlotte Hood's shot away, again from well in front of the cage. Wooster's sophomore made two more saves late in the third period and stopped two shots in the final five minutes of the contest.

DePauw outshot Wooster 15-2 and finished with a 12-1 lead on corners.

Wooster's Indiana swing continues with a 12 p.m. game at Earlham College (1-5, 0-2 NCAC), an affiliate member of the league in field hockey. The game takes place on Sunday, September 24.
