Wooster Corners Earlham, 3-0

Audrey McKenna, Lizzie Hardy, Wooster Field Hockey RICHMOND, Indiana – An overwhelming performance was turned in by The College of Wooster field hockey team, which made quick work of host Earlham College in Sunday's 3-0 North Coast Athletic Conference win.

Wooster's (3-2, 1-2 NCAC) early offensive pressure resulted in a pair of first-period goals, both of which were scored by sophomore Lizzie Hardy. About 8:30 of game time elapsed before the Fighting Scots struck following a corner insert. Senior Delaney Gross played the ball in from outside the circle. Ciara O'Connor won a one-on-one battle with a Quaker defender about four yards in front of the cage. Then, the senior crossed the ball to Hardy, who had the quick stick work to direct the pass between Earlham's goalie and a lurking defender.

Relentless effort resulted in Wooster's second goal, following a penalty corner with about 1:40 left in the opening stanza. Hardy lifted a rebound shot over Earlham's sprawled out 'keeper for her second score of the year.

Damage in the scoring column continued to come from penalty corners, with Wooster striking a third time following one in the third. Sophomore Mary Johnson had plenty of pace to cross a pass to the post past Earlham's 'keeper, and O'Connor scored for the first time of the year on the redirect.

Defensively, Wooster allowed just one shot in the game, and the Scots finished with a 20-1 advantage there. The 20 shots marked the second-most for the team on the year, while defensively, the one shot allowed is the second time the Scots have held a team to two or fewer shots.

Sophomore Cate Barkdoll went the distance for shutout three of the year, and Wooster has recorded a shutout in all of its wins this fall.

Wooster earned 16 penalty corners to Earlham's three.

Earlham's Rachel Alma and Ainsley Kemp combined for nine saves.

Next, Wooster hosts Washington & Jefferson College (4-4, 3-1 NCAC), another conference affiliate in field hockey. The game is scheduled for 1 p.m. on Saturday, September 30, with the start time pushed back to 1 p.m. due to a campus-wide power outage in the morning.
