Scots Extend Win Streak to Five, Keep Playoff Hopes Alive

The College of Wooster field hockey team won its fifth straight and collected its eighth shutout with a 2-0 win over Wittenberg University on Sunday.

Wooster's goal scorers from Saturday's 5-1 win against Transylvania University got back in the scoring column on Sunday with a goal each. After scoring three goals yesterday, sophomore Mary Johnson broke a scoreless tie in the second quarter.

Johnson scored off a deflection on ball sent toward the cage by Delaney Gross, who recorded the assist.

Wooster then received some insurance in the fourth thanks to yesterday's two-goal scorer as sophomore Lizzie Hardy scored off a blocked shot.

Wooster took advantage following a penalty corner. Olivia Nengel's first shot was blocked, but Hardy was there to pick up the pieces.

Only ten shots were taken in the game with Wooster owning seven of those. Wittenberg had four penalty corner attempts to Wooster's two.

Sophomore Cate Barkdoll made one save in the shutout.

The win moves Wooster to 9-3 overall and 6-3 in the NCAC. In Wooster's nine wins this season, eight have come via the shutout.

In the NCAC standings, Wooster is currently tied in fourth place with Kenyon College, who holds the tiebreaker between the Scots.

For Wooster to make the tournament, they will need to win at Ohio Wesleyan University (14-0, 8-0) in its regular season finale on Saturday and have Kenyon fall to Wittenberg (9-7, 4-5).
