Cline Earns CSC Academic All-District® Honors

JJ Cline, Wooster Basketball CSC Academic All-District® Release

The College of Wooster's JJ Cline was among the College Sports Communicators (CSC) Academic All-District® honorees, as announced by the organization on Tuesday afternoon.

The three-year letterwinner is in his first year as a starter for NCAA Div. III's winningest men's basketball team of the 2000s, which locked up its North Coast Athletic Conference-leading 19th championship last week before clinching the title outright on senior Turner Kurt's buzzer-beating three-pointer in Saturday's 75-74 win over Wabash College. Cline, who was part of the program's 1,800th all-time win this season, is averaging 6.4 points, 3.2 rebounds, and 0.7 assists per game. He scored a career-high 14 points against the University of Rochester in December and secured a collegiate-best seven rebounds in Saturday's win over Wabash.

Cline is active with a local church as a youth group leader and he regularly assists the Wooster Kiwanis Club with its annual used book sale. Cline volunteers with local Night to Shine events in Wooster and coaches youth basketball. The education and mathematics major gained education field experience in a special education classroom at Edgewood Middle School as a sophomore. Cline is an athletic communication intern and serves as a play-by-play commentator for spring sports and soccer.

Cline is on the Academic All-America® ballot, which is voted on by CSC members in advance of the announcement of the Academic All-America® Team on March 14. Starting with the 2022-23 academic year, all eligible nominees submitted by member schools earn Academic All-District® status. Nominees were voted to the Academic All-District® Team in previous years and those winners advanced to the Academic All-America® ballot.
