First-Years Shine at Baldwin Wallace Invitational

Noah Jackman, Wooster Golf HINCKLEY, Ohio – Gabe Guthrie finished at even-par, with the first-year helping The College of Wooster men's golf team to a third-place finish at the eight-team Baldwin Wallace University Invitational, which took place Saturday at the par-72, 6,748-yard Pine Hills Golf Club.

Guthrie placed third and was the top NCAA Div. III finisher in the 66-competitor field. He sank two birdies on the front-nine before logging one on No. 15 to get back to even-par. Guthrie played Saturday's back-nine at 1-under-par, and he was 2-under-par on par-five holes.

Classmate Mark Towns was three strokes back of Guthrie, and his 75 was the fourth-best score of the day. Towns eagled the par-5, 483-yard 15th hole and had three birdies on his card.

Sophomore Noah Jackman tied for 34th-place at 82 and classmate Krish Nayak tied for 39th-place after signing for an 83. Junior Jacob Ullom rounded out the lineup with an 89, which was tied for 55th-place.

Junior David Dennis led Wooster's "B" team with a 77.

NCAA Div. II Lake Erie College led the field with a 294. Lake Erie's Antonio Bodziony was the medalist at 2-under-par. John Carroll University was second at 308 and Wooster had a 312 for the day.

Next, Wooster competes at the University of Mount Union Fall Invitational September 24-25.
