Scots Winners Again, Accomplish Something for First Time Since 1997-98 Season

Krish Nayak, Wooster Golf BLUFFTON, Ohio – The College of Wooster men's golf team convincingly won its second tournament of the year, as the Fighting Scots' 615 was the top mark by 16 strokes at the six-team Bluffton University Beaver Fall Classic this weekend. Wooster's win marks the first time the Scots have won multiple traditional tournaments in the same year since earning top billing four times during the 1997-98 season.

Medalist honors went to sophomore Krish Nayak, who downed Bluffton's Evan Kujaka with a par on the first playoff hole. Nayak's 147 was ignited by a 2-under-par 70 on Saturday. He immediately carded a birdie on the back-nine opening hole at the par-72, 6,641-yard Bluffton Golf Club, then dropped in four consecutive birdies, starting with hole 16. A sixth birdie was in the cards for Nayak, as he rolled one in on the par-4, 393-yard eighth hole. Nayak's now a two-time medalist this year.

First-year Mark Towns tied for third-place at 153 with rounds of 76 and 77. Towns logged six birdies on the weekend and played Sunday's front nine at 1-over-par. Towns was 1-under-par through five holes on Sunday, a round in which he played 12 holes at par or better.

First-year Gabe Guthrie's ninth-place effort of 158 gave the Scots 10 top-10 finishes this fall. Like Towns, Guthrie was 1-over-par at the turn on Sunday, and he played 22 holes at par or better on the week.

Sophomore Noah Jackman (81-79-160) and first-year James Jiang (78-89-167) were in Wooster's lineup and placed 28th and 32nd, respectively. Sophomore Sam Norris (84-81-165) competed as an individual and tied for 28th-place. The trio combined to play 59 holes at par or better.

Lourdes University, a NAIA program, was the runner-up at 631.

Notable, Wooster finished in the top-three at all five fall events.
