Scots Start Week With Runner-Up Finish

James Jiang, Wooster Golf MEDINA, Ohio – The College of Wooster men's golf team got a jump start on a busy week with a runner-up showing at Monday's Muskingum University Fox Meadow Invite, which was held at the par-72, 6,976-yard Fox Meadow Country Club in Medina. The Fighting Scots' 314 was the runner-up score in the five-team field.

Sophomore Krish Nayak's 75 was the runner-up score. He vaulted up the leaderboard with an eagle on the par-5, 556-yard 18th hole. Nayak had two birdies on the day, with the first coming at the par-4, 412-yard ninth hole and the second at the par-5, 504-yard 15th hole. Thanks to the eagle, Nayak played the par-5 holes at 2-under par.

Junior David Dennis and sophomore Sam Norris were just outside the top-10 with matching 79s. Dennis came alive on the back nine, shooting even par, with birdies on the par-4, 314-yard 14th hole and holes 15 and 18. Dennis played the final eight holes at 1-under-par and played 12 holes at par or better. Norris also turned in a steady effort on the back nine, shooting a 1-over-par 37. Norris birdied No. 18 and had par or better on seven of the last eight holes.

Junior Connor Mitchell and first-year James Jiang both shot 81 to round out the lineup. Mitchell's best stretch started with a birdie on the par-4, 420-yard 12th hole, and he followed that up with consecutive pars. Mitchell had three pars in a four-hole stretch just before the turn. Jiang pared seven of the nine holes on the front nine at Fox Meadow and was 3-over-par through 10 holes. He carded a birdie on No. 15 and played the par-5 holes at even par for the day.

Juniors Eddie Papp (83) and John Varley (89) played as individuals.

Muskingum's 304 led the field. The Fighting Muskies' Cameron Henry's 73 went in the books as the medalist score.
