Wooster Gets Set for NCAC Championships in Pennsylvania

Krish Nayak, Wooster Golf FAYETTEVILLE, Pennsylvania – The College of Wooster men's golf team tuned up for the North Coast Athletic Conference Championships at Gettysburg College's Spring Shootout, which took place this weekend on the Founders Course at Penn National Golf Club & Inn. The Fighting Scots placed sixth of nine teams at 631 and finished ahead of a top-50 Golfstat-ranked program in Dickinson College.

Wooster opened with a 314 on Saturday, which consisted of a 75 from sophomore Krish Nayak, a 78 from first-year Gabe Guthrie, an 80 from junior Jacob Ullom, and an 81 from first-year Mark Towns. Wooster's 317 on Sunday was comprised of 77s from Nayak and Ullom, Guthrie's 79, and sophomore Noah Jackman's 84.

Nayak placed 10th at 152. He played Saturday's back nine at the par-72, 6,784-yard Founders Course at even par after rolling in birdies on the par-5, 524-yard 10th hole, the par-4, 397-yard 12th hole, and the par-4, 365-yard 15th hole. The sophomore made Sunday's turn at even par, with his fifth birdie of the weekend coming at the par-5, 527-yard second hole. He fired off eight straight pars after dropping a stoke on No. 3.

Guthrie and Ullom tied for 19th-place at 157. The duo combined for eight birdies on the weekend and played 42 holes at par or better. Towns tied for 39th-place at 166, while Jackman's 168 tied for 44th-place. Towns' best stretch came on Saturday's back nine, where he went 3-over-par with six pars and three bogeys. Jackman had a strong start to Saturday's back nine, logging four straight pars.

Franklin & Marshall College won the Gettysburg Spring Shootout at 603, which was a stroke better than Swarthmore College. Swarthmore's Dylan Zhang was the medalist with a 1-over-par 145.

Wooster's "B" team played at the makeup date for the Baldwin Wallace University Spring Invitational at Pine Hills Golf Club in Hinckley, Ohio on Saturday. Junior Tyler Hilbert's 76 was tied for third-place, while junior David Dennis signed for a 77 to place within the field's top-five. Hilbert immediately sank a birdie on the par-4, 345-yard first hole and was back at 1-under-par with a circle on the card on No. 7 at the par-72, 6,572-yard layout at Pine Hills. Dennis drained back-to-back birdies on holes 12 and 13.

Next, Wooster competes at the NCAC Championships, which are hosted by the College at Westfield Country Club's North Course in Westfield Center, Ohio, April 28-30.
