Wooster Opens NCAC Championships With Lowest Round Since September

David Dennis, Wooster Golf WESTFIELD CENTER, Ohio – The College of Wooster men's golf team started the North Coast Athletic Conference Championships with one of its most complete rounds of the year, as the Fighting Scots' 303 on Friday has the team in fourth-place and within six strokes of a top-two standing at Westfield Country Club's North Course.

Wooster's 303, which marked the team's lowest round since the year-opening Gatorade Collegiate in September, is just a stroke back of third-place Kenyon College and six behind Denison University. Wittenberg University is the frontrunner after shooting a 10-over-par 290.

Junior Jacob Ullom's 73 is tied for third-place. Ullom went 1-under-par over the final seven holes at the par-70, 6,733-yard layout. He rolled in a birdie on the par-5, 577-yard 16th hole and played the par 5 holes at 1-under-par. Ullom played 14 of Friday's holes at par or better and had stretches of four and three straight pars on the front nine.

Junior Tyler Hilbert and sophomore Krish Nayak are tied for 12th-place after 76s. Hilbert dropped just two strokes on the front nine, with pars on holes three through eight. He added five more pars on the back nine. Nayak found success early, rolling in a birdie on the opening hole. That success turned into consistent play on the back nine, where Nayak was 2-over-par with seven pars, including all three par-5 holes.

Junior David Dennis is tied for 24th-place after signing for a 78. Dennis rolled in birdies on the par-4, 408-yard 12th hole and the par-5, 552-yard 14th hole and was 1-under par over the final seven holes.

First-year Gabe Guthrie rounded out the lineup with an 80, which is tied for 31st-place. Guthrie was super consistent on the par-3 holes on the back nine, playing those at even par.

Wooster's solid play saw the Scots have just three double bogeys or worse over the round.

Wittenberg's J.F. Aber shot even par and holds a 1-stroke lead over teammate Evan DiSanto.

Saturday's round starts at 12 p.m. The men are teeing off on hole 10 of the North Course.
