Ullom Earns All-NCAC Honors, as Scots Cap NCAC Championships

Jacob Ullom, Wooster Golf WESTFIELD CENTER, Ohio – Junior Jacob Ullom became The College of Wooster men's golf team's first first-team All-North Coast Athletic Conference performer since 2014, which was one the bright spots for the Fighting Scots, who slipped to sixth-place on the final day of the 2023 NCAC Championships, which took place over the last three days at the par-70, 6,733-yard Westfield Country Club North Course. Wooster shot a 308 on Sunday to finish at 909 for the 54-hole event.

Ullom tied for fifth-place at 222 after a 76 on Sunday. He rolled in a birdie on the par-4, 498-yard 17th hole to get to 2-over-par for the back nine. Ullom had pars on the par-3, 176-yard 13th hole, the par-3, 192-yard 15th hole, and the par-5, 577-yard 16th hole as part of a 1-over-par finish over the final six holes. He turned at 3-over-par with five pars on the front nine.

Sophomore Krish Nayak was next at 227, just missing on All-NCAC laurels with a 16th-place finish. Nayak's round started strong and ended strong with four straight pars to start and four more to end. He turned at 3-over-par.

Juniors David Dennis and Tyler Hilbert tied for 27th-place at 232. Dennis' 75 led the Scots' lineup on Sunday. He turned at 2-over-par after logging a five-hole stretch of pars, starting on hole four. A birdie rolled in on the par-3, 177-yard 11th hole, and his round ended with three straight pars. Hilbert bounced back from an up-and-down front nine with a strong back nine, which he played at 2-over-par after draining birdies on the 11th and par-5, 604-yard 18th hole. Hilbert came in at 79 on Sunday.

First-year Gabe Guthrie tied for 31st-place at 234. Guthrie also had a 79 on the card on Sunday. He birdied the par-4, 332-yard fifth hole and the par-4, 426-yard 10th hole. Guthrie was at even par through five holes and had pars on seven, eight, 14, and 16.

Wittenberg University posted a championships' best 3-over-par 283 on Sunday to finish at 864, 28 strokes clear of runner-up Denison University. Kenyon College, which Wooster entered the day tied with for third-place, came in at 897, DePauw University took fourth at 903, and Wabash College finished fifth with a score of 904.

Marcus Carano, a 2016 alumnus who is set to play in the U.S. Amateur Four-Ball Championships with fellow first-team All-NCAC alumnus John Angelo in May, was Wooster's most recent first-team All-NCAC performer prior to Ullom.

Wittenberg's Matthew Mattioli posted a 2-under-par 68 to finish at 212 and earn the Coach Bob Nye Award, which goes to the men's medalist of the NCAC Championships.
