Hilbert in Top Five at Dan Caschera Invitational

Andrew Carey, Wooster Golf CHARDON, Ohio –Tyler Hilbert's consistent spring continued at John Carroll University's Dan Caschera Invitational, where The College of Wooster men's golf senior led the Fighting Scots to a fifth-place finish at 626.

Hilbert's 151 was a fourth-place score, and it marked the senior's second straight top-four placement. Hilbert's 75 on Monday was his sixth score of 75 or better on the season. He played the front nine of the Sand Ridge Golf Club at 1-over-par on Monday and was 2-over-par on the back nine. Hilbert rolled in a birdie on the par-5, 485-yard 14th hole and played holes 13 through 18 at 1-under-par. In fact, Hilbert logged an 11-hole stretch at 2-under par, as he started on hole six. That 11-hole stretch was also bogey free and the second birdie dropped at the par-4, 311-yard fifth hole. In round one, Hilbert played both the front and back at 2-over-par and he had 14 holes at par or better.

First-year Andrew Carey was next at 157, which placed him in a tie for 20th-place. Carey signed for a 79 on Sunday and a 78 on Monday. He was 1-over-par on the front nine at Sand Ridge on Monday, with birdies coming on both par five holes. Of note, Carey was 3-under-par on the day on par five holes and played holes 11 through 16 at even par. On Sunday, Carey had three birdies and six pars on the card.

Sophomore Gabe Guthrie tied for 27th-place with a 159. Guthrie's Monday 79 featured a six-hole stretch and a four-hole stretch of pars. He pared holes four through nine on the front nine, which included the opening four holes and the final two holes of the shotgun-started round. Guthrie drained three birdies on Sunday, two of which came on the front nine making the sophomore 2-over-par for those nine holes.

Junior Krish Nayak's 160 ranked in a tie for 34th-place. Nayak heated up in round two with a 78 for his 13th round of the year in the 70s. Nayak birdied four holes, including both par five holes on the back nine at Sand Ridge. Nayak played his final eight holes of the day at even par. In round one, Nayak had nine pars, including three straight spanning holes 13 through 15.

First-year Jake Cammarata rounded out the lineup and tied for 44th-place at 163. Cammarata opened with an 85 and bounced right back with a 78. The 78 featured a 2-over-par 38 on the back nine, with birdies going down on the par-5, 545-yard 11th hole and the par-3, 142-yard 16th hole. Cammarata played holes three through six at even par on Sunday with a par on each hole.

Seniors David Dennis (161, 37th-place) and Connor Mitchell (170, 58th-place) competed as individuals in the field. Dennis logged rounds of 84 and 77. His 77 included 12 holes at par or better. Mitchell's 80 on Monday had two birdies and 11 holes at par or better.

Kenyon College shot a 600 to lead the 12-team field. University of Mount Union's Brian Myers' 1-over-par 145 was the medalist score.

Next, Wooster plays at the Denison University Spring Invitational, which takes place Sunday, April 28 at Denison Golf Club.
