Lee’s Four Goals Not Enough in 13-9 Setback at Goucher

Tim Lee, a senior midfielder for The College of Wooster, scored a career-high four goals, but Goucher College handed the Fighting Scots their first loss of the 2009 campaign, a 13-9 decision, on Sunday afternoon in Towson, Md.

The teams played to a 3-3 deadlock through one quarter. Then, Goucher (3-1) took the lead in the second and gained some significant separation late in the half as it scored three times during the final 1:40 for a 9-5 cushion.

After the Gophers scored the initial goal of the third quarter, Wooster (2-1) rallied. The Scots threw in three-straight goals over a 7:42 stretch, including a pair by Lee, which brought them within 10-8.

Goucher answered, accounting for the first three goals of the fourth and building its lead back to five (13-8) to seal the win.

Statistically, Wooster actually held a 33-26 shot advantage on the day. In addition to Lee's four goals, Pat Coyne also recorded a four-point outing with two goals and two assists, and Alex Mies found the back of the net twice and assisted on another goal.

Kyle Boncaro had a big day for the Gophers with five goals and three assists.

The Scots continue their East Coast spring break trip with a tilt at Swarthmore College on Wednesday afternoon.
