Senior Salute - Mason Poisson

Mason Poisson Q&A Throughout the spring semester we are honoring our senior student-athletes with a "Senior Salute" series. Today's featured senior is Mason Poisson, a business economics major from Marblehead, Massachusetts. Poisson is a member of the men's lacrosse team.

Q: Why did you choose to attend The College of Wooster?
A: I chose to attend The College of Wooster due to its combination of high-level academics and strong athletics. This fostered my growth as both a student and athlete during my time here.

Q: What does being a Fighting Scot student-athlete mean to you?
A: I feel a Fighting Scot represents an individual who works in a group environment to pursue excellence in both academics and athletics.

Q: What are some of your favorite memories as a student at The College of Wooster?
A: My favorite memory as a student-athlete at The College of Wooster is running onto John P. Papp Stadium with my teammates.

Q: What is the best part about being a student-athlete at The College of Wooster?
A: The best part of being a student-athlete at The College of Wooster is being a part of a group that is bigger than yourself while building relationships with others that last forever.  

Q: What else were you involved with on campus besides your sport?
A: I am a member of Men Working for Change, a student group which spreads awareness surrounding domestic violence and offers a support system for victims of domestic violence and sexual assault.

Q: Which College of Wooster faculty or staff member has made the greatest impact on you and why?
A: Dr. Sookti Chaudhary has had the greatest impact on my college career. She has helped me create my Independent Study, as well as form my future career path.

Q: What other people or resources impacted your Wooster experience in a positive way and how did these people and resources set you up to be successful at Wooster?
A: Coach Eric Seideman has truly impacted my Wooster experience in a positive way. My coach has made lacrosse fun to play again while also preparing me for life after school.

Q: Tell us a bit about your Independent Study project?
A: My Independent Study evaluates how the COVID-19 pandemic has impacted the construction industry with results varying based on gender and income. My hope is to work in the construction management industry after graduation, and this study will offer insight into how the industry has been impacted by the pandemic.

Q: Tell us a bit about something cool you did as a student at The College of Wooster?
A: The coolest thing I did as a student at The College of Wooster was going on spring break to Orlando with the men's lacrosse team. The 16-hour bus rides, beach days, and games made the trip very memorable.

Q: Reflecting back on your time at Wooster, what advice would you give you first-year (freshman) self?
A:  Looking back at my college experience, I would tell my first-year self to embrace the little things and push yourself out of your comfort zone. You never know who you'll meet and how they might impact your life.
