First Game, First Win for Seideman and Men’s Lacrosse

Will Fink NEW WILMINGTON, Pa. – The College of Wooster men's lacrosse team defeated Westminster 12-10 on Wednesday, giving coach Eric Seideman his first win at Wooster.

Sophomore Will Fink put up three goals, while junior Vinny DiLeo assisted on four goals and surpassed 100 career points

It was both team's season opener. Wooster enters after a 6-10 year, while Westminster was picked third in the Presidents' Athletic Conference Preseason Coaches' Poll after a 10-5 season.

A strong start gave Wooster enough of a cushion as they dominated the first quarter 6-0, and they did it all with five different goal scorers.

Rory Zahren, DiLeo, Colton Beaudoin, Fink, Lane Kellogg, and Austin Jourde all scored in the opening quarter.

The second quarter was more balanced as the teams traded three goals each. Fink connected on his second goal, while Ben Byars and Casey Steffen scored for the Scots to lead 9-3 at halftime. Steffen's goal was the first of his career.

The Titans inched back in the second half, cutting the lead to 11-7 by the end of the third. However, that was before Beaudoin scored his second goal and Max Fletcher scored his first.

Westminster got even closer in the fourth. After Fink scored his third goal, the Titans scored the next three, cutting the lead to 12-10 with 1:41 left.

Luckily for Wooster, time was on their side thanks to their strong first half.

Jimmy Fisher led the team with eight ground balls. Steffen followed with five and three caused turnovers. Zahren won 8-of-13 faceoffs, and Fisher won 7-of-12.

Paul Chandler collected 18 saves in his first win of the year.

Wooster will take its 1-0 record into Otterbein University on Saturday when they play the host Cardinals at 1 p.m.
