Scots Match Best Start in Program History

Tucker Joseph, Wooster Lacrosse

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colorado – The College of Wooster men's lacrosse team matched its best start in program history, reaching 7-0 with a 14-8 win over Southwestern University on Friday afternoon at Colorado College. Wooster previously started the year 7-0 in 2014.

Wooster outscored Southwestern (6-3) 8-0 over periods two and three, resulting in a commanding 11-2 lead. First-year Lane Kellogg started the scoring spree off with consecutive goals within the first 2:13 of the second. Mainstay offensive contributor Vinny DiLeo tacked on two goals in the third, with those book-ending a 5-0 stanza.

DiLeo's four goals co-led Wooster, which also saw Kellogg score four times and junior JoJo Jordan score twice. Junior Jimmy Fisher and sophomore Rory Zahren won eight faceoffs apiece, and thanks to sophomore Cody Mox's 2-for-3 showing late, Wooster went 18-for-24.

Junior Casey Steffen surpassed 25 caused turnovers on the season with three, and he is just shy of a top-eight program ranking in a stat that has been tracked officially since 2010. DiLeo joined Steffen with two caused turnovers. Junior Paul Chandler made 10 saves and senior Adam Meyer stopped three shots in just under a quarter of action.

Matt Caldwell scored three times and had two assists for Southwestern. Nate Blair made 13 saves, and the team had 17 overall.

Wooster fired off 61 shots, which was nearly double Southwestern's 34.

Wooster has a quick turnaround with a 2 p.m. ET/noon MT game against Colorado College on Saturday.
