Multiple Program Milestones Reached in Wooster's Setback Against OWU

Paul Chandler, Wooster Lacrosse WOOSTER, Ohio - Two members of The College of Wooster men's lacrosse team reached significant career milestones in a 12-3 North Coast Athletic Conference loss to Ohio Wesleyan University inside John P. Papp Stadium on Wednesday evening.

Senior Paul Chandler became the sixth Fighting Scot in program history to record 500 career saves while senior Jimmy Fisher broke the program record for career faceoff wins. Both entered the contest just five shy of their respective marks. Chandler made 12 saves in the loss, including the milestone at the 8:26 mark of the second quarter. Meanwhile, Fisher collected 8-of-17 faceoffs on the night and became the program leader with the opening faceoff of the second half.

Sophomore Lane Kellogg led the way for Wooster (10-4, 4-1 NCAC) offensively with one goal and one assist. Senior Ben Byars and junior Will Fink were the only two others to find the back of the net for the Scots. Senior Casey Steffen led the way defensively with a team-high four caused turnovers and four groundballs, while senior Henry McMahon snagged five groundballs.

First-year Wade Beckstrom proved to be unstoppable for Ohio Wesleyan (9-3, 6-0 NCAC) with a matching stat line of four goals and four assists. Junior Carson Geier netted a hat trick of his own and junior Spencer Amacher dished out four assists. Sophomore Noah Citek was all over the field with nine groundballs and also won 10-of-18 faceoffs.

While Ohio Wesleyan got on the scoreboard first, Wooster quickly found its answer with Fink's unassisted goal. Several minutes passed in a stalemate until Kellogg connected with Byars at the 6:13 mark for the Scots only lead of the game.

Wooster's last score came thanks to an Ohio Wesleyan turnover off the opening faceoff in the fourth quarter. After a quick clear, McMahon dished to Kellogg for the score. The Battling Bishops added one more tally to the scoreboard before the final buzzer sounded.

Chandler suffered the loss in the net while junior Nathan George earned the win with eight saves on 11 shots. Ohio Wesleyan led in all statistical categories of the game.

Wooster hits the road this Saturday, April 20, for a NCAC matchup with Denison University (10-5, 6-0 NCAC) at 1 p.m.
