Men's Soccer Falls Short in Season Opener

Moody Saadi The College of Wooster men's soccer team lost 2-1 to Baldwin Wallace University on Thursday in the team's season opener.

Baldwin Wallace went ahead 2-0 before Wooster tallied its first score of the year off the foot of senior Moody Saadi in the second half.

The Yellowjackets took a 1-0 lead into halftime. Max Yakym led a ball from midfield to the top of the box where Michael Tusick got by Wooster goalkeeper Jason Prather and scored in the open net.

Baldwin Wallace also struck first in the second half. Following a goal kick from Prather, the Yellowjackets got the advantage and brought the ball back into the box where Nick Surowicz lofted a shot over Prather and into the goal in the 70th minute.

Wooster answered almost 40 seconds later off a throw in from senior Jack Whitehouse who placed the ball on the opposite end of the goal for Saadi to connect. After a brief discussion of a possible offside, the goal stayed intact.

Wooster (0-1) outshot Baldwin Wallace (1-0) 22-13. Prather collected six saves while his counterpart Zoltan Nagy saved 11 shots.

Next, Wooster takes part in a tournament hosted by Penn State Behrend, where they take on the host Lions at 2:30 p.m. Saturday.
