Wiley's Goal Nets Wooster Tie After Costly Mistake

Max Wiley The College of Wooster men's soccer team survived what would have been a devastating loss after sophomore Max Wiley found the back of the net for the Scots to tie DePauw University 1-1 on Saturday.

Wooster had to play from behind right early on when a DePauw corner kick went awry and resulted in an own goal against the Scots. That resulted in Wooster turning up the pressure and eventually hitting the equalizer in the 62nd minute.

Wiley found an opening after making a move, and his shot deflected off the goalkeeper and went into the goal. Wiley now leads the team with 11 points and ties for the lead with four goals.

Wooster outshot the Tigers 19-15. They had other opportunities but could not find that last goal for the win. The Scots also had eight corner kicks to DePauw's seven.

Jason Prather stayed busy in net, making eight saves. He is 4-5-1 on the year.

Wooster moves to 4-5-3 overall and 1-1-1 in North Coast Athletic Conference matchups. DePauw is now 5-3-4 and 0-1-1 in NCAC play. The Scots host Wittenberg University on Tuesday.
