Christodoulou Scores First Goal as Scots Face Off Against Spartans

Colin Stoner CLEVELAND – The College of Wooster men's soccer team got an early test against Case Western Reserve University on Sunday and took a 4-1 loss in its second game of the fall season.

Case Western Reserve (2-0), who had a first-round exit in the NCAA Division III Championship last year, got out to an early lead, scoring after an early corner just 1:29 into the contest. Sean Wilson received a pass from Alex Lippiatt to give Case the 1-0 lead.

Five minutes later, Wooster hurt themselves with a foul inside the goalie box to give Case a penalty kick. Matt Vatne connected, and Case led 2-0 just 6:38 into the game.

That score settled for almost 30 minutes until Wooster got on the board. First-year Aris Christodoulou scored off his left foot in the 36th minute to cut the deficit to one.

Case led 2-1 at halftime but extended its lead just three minutes into the second half as Jacob Salmon made it a 3-1 game. The Spartans then scored once more in the 81st minute via a goal from Kysen Kroeger.

Wooster had its offensive opportunities, outshooting the Spartans 15-11.

Gabriel Thomas made three saves in net for the Scots, while Case's Bradley Winter made two saves.

Wooster moves to 0-1-1 on the year, and they will host Westminster College on Thursday.
