Floodgates Open for Men’s Soccer

The College of Wooster men's soccer team did not mind the rain on Tuesday, picking up its first win of the season with a 6-0 victory over Heidelberg University.

Nothing was happening for either team for the first 36 minutes of the game, but when sophomore Elliot Miller scored his second goal of the season with a laser of a shot off his left foot, the Scots started to roll. The sophomore beat a couple defenders downfield and took his shot near the left side of the box in the 37th minute.

Wooster tallied one more goal to conclude the half as passes from Robert Hillhouse and Walker Johnson found an open Takoda Zuehlke for the score. Both Hillhouse and Walker were credited with an assist, while Zuehlke netted his first collegiate goal for the Scots.

Wooster added on four more goals in the second half, starting with a brother-to-brother connection as Zach Napora scored off assists from Luca Napora and Johnson.

One minute and 20 seconds later, junior Mason Garza got on the board off an assist from Moody Saadi. The senior Saadi later got his turn, scoring on a penalty kick in the 60th minute.

Finally, in the 86th minute, first-year Riley Intrator wrapped up scoring, the first of his career, off an assist from Aris Christodoulou.

Wooster outshot Heidelberg (1-4) 38-5 and took nine corner kicks to Heidelberg's two. Wooster held possession for the majority of the game.

Senior Gabriel Thomas didn't need to make a save to collect the complete shutout.

Prior, Wooster had scoored just three goals in four games. It's their largest margin of victory since last year when they defeated Defiance College by the same score.

Wooster improves to 1-2-2 on the season. They travel to Alma College on Saturday.
