Scots Battle Ranked Raiders in Final Non-Conference Game

Moody Saadi The College of Wooster men's soccer team went up against ninth-ranked University of Mount Union on Wednesday, falling 3-1.

Mount Union took the early lead but Wooster matched them in the 32nd minute as senior Moody Saadi came off the bench and put Wooster on the board for his third goal of the year.

The teams entered halftime tied, 1-1, but the patient, yet aggressive, play of Mount Union (9-0) came through in the second half.

They took the advantage on a penalty kick in the 58th minute, scored by Omar Naijar. The Purple Raiders made it 3-1 late in the 87th minute on a goal from Jamon McCort.

Mount Union entered undefeated and ranked ninth in the United Soccer Coaches' Top 25 Poll. It's their highest ranking in program history, having moved up nine spots from a week ago with highlight wins over 11th-ranked Calvin University and 25th-ranked Case Western Reserve University.

Wooster (3-4-2), coming off a 1-0 win over Baldwin Wallace University, put up a valiant effort. They were outshot 19-9 and had to fend off eight corner kicks while only getting one all game.

Gabriel Thomas played the first half in goal, while Drew Beazley played the second half. Each made one save.

Next, Wooster will look forward past its non-conference schedule. They open North Coast Athletic Conference play on Saturday when they travel to Oberlin College.
