Wiley Scores PK in Loss at Wittenberg

Max Wiley SPRINGFIELD – A strong first half from Wittenberg University was enough to foil The College of Wooster men's soccer team on Saturday. The Scots fell 3-1 in the North Coast Athletic Conference matchup.

Wittenberg celebrated its homecoming with two consecutive goals in the 23rd and 26th minutes of the game. The Tigers received goals from Jack Pascoal and Nick Harding.

Wittenberg (6-2-2, 1-1 NCAC) pushed across one more goal before halftime as Josh Pawlicki found Christopher Meyer with seconds left on the clock.

Coming off a 2-0 win over Hiram College, Wooster (4-5-3, 1-1-1) came back out and won the second half. Wooster was awarded a penalty kick in the 71st minute, and Max Wiley put Wooster on the board with his third goal of the year.

Unfortunately, that's all the scoring the Scots could obtain. Wittenberg ended up outshooting the Scots thanks to its strong first half, but Wooster outshot the Tigers 9-2 in the final 45 minutes.

It was a chippy game with eight yellow cards issued between the two teams.

Drew Beazley made four saves in net in the loss.

Wooster will start a three-game home stretch this week, starting with Kenyon College on Tuesday.
