Absolute Heartbreaker for Men’s Soccer

Takoda Zuehlke The College of Wooster men's soccer team had No. 25 Kenyon College on the ropes on Tuesday, but the Owls erased a 1-0 deficit with 10 minutes to go and defeated the Scots 2-1.

Wooster surprised the Owls from the opening whistle as the two teams went scoreless for 65 minutes.

The first half was as even as it could get. Kenyon outshot the Scots 7-6, and they could not connect on any of their five corner kick opportunities.

Only one of Kenyon's shots were on goal, as Wooster keeper Drew Beazley made his lone save of the half.

Wooster broke open the scoring in the 66th minute as senior Moody Saadi broke free near the top of the box and scored off his right foot. It was his fourth goal of the season.

All Wooster had to do was hold off the Kenyon attack to secure a huge North Coast Athletic Conference win. However, Kenyon was able to put its first across on a free kick near the top of the box in the 82nd minute thanks to Alem Duratovic.

The first place Owls kept up the pressure and earned a corner kick in the final closing seconds of the game. After the initial play, Aidan Burns collected the ball from a failed clear, sent it towards the goal, and a header from Joey Martens gave Kenyon the lead with nine seconds remaining.

Beazley ended with three saves. Kenyon outshot Wooster 15-13. Wooster had just one corner, while Kenyon took nine.

Kenyon, ranked third regionally, snuck into the national rankings on Tuesday. The Owls (9-3, 3-0 NCAC), opened the year with a pair of losses to ranked opponents but have since gone 10-1.

Wooster (4-5-3, 1-1-1 NCAC) will remain home for its next two games. They will host Wabash on Saturday in the first game of a men/women doubleheader at 12:30 p.m.
