Miller’s Goal Nets Wooster Huge Win at Historic Crew Stadium

COLUMBUS – Elliot Miller's second half goal and Gabriel Thomas's play in net lifted The College of Wooster men's soccer team to a big North Coast Athletic Conference win against Denison University 1-0 on Tuesday.

The two teams played at the Historic Crew Stadium in Columbus where alumni and fans from both schools gathered to cheer on their respective teams.

A scoreless game at halftime, it was Wooster who broke through in the 57th minute when sophomore Elliot Miller scored the game winner on a header off a pass from the left side from senior Takoda Zuehlke.

It was Miller's third goal of the year, and Zuehlke's first assist. Miller said after the game it was a special moment for him, having attended games at the stadium when he was younger.

But Wooster held off a furious attack from the Big Red, who ended up outshooting the Scots 19-4.

Denison controlled most of the possession in the first half, outshooting Wooster 8-1 in that half alone. Wooster did have two corner kicks but could not capitalize on either.

The senior Thomas was a wall in goal, making four saves for his fourth shutout of the season. He made a pair of highlight saves in the final minutes to survive a crazy sequence that helped secure the win for the Scots.

It was Wooster's second win over Denison since 2004 and its first since 2018.

Denison (9-4-3, 3-2-2) entered third in the NCAC standings, while Wooster (6-7-3, 3-3-1) entered fifth.

With games wrapped up Tuesday, Wooster now sits in fourth with 10 points and controls their own destiny.

One final day of the regular season is left with four conference games on Saturday. Wooster will travel to DePauw University with a 5:30 p.m. start.
