Senior Salute: Garrett Anderson

Garrett Anderson Q&A Throughout the spring semester, we are honoring our senior student-athletes with a "Senior Salute" series. Today's featured senior is Garrett Anderson, a communication studies and environmental studies major from Louisville, Kentucky. Anderson is a member of the men's soccer team.

Q: Why did you choose to attend The College of Wooster?
A: I chose to attend The College of Wooster because of the ability to compete in my favorite sport while also ensuring I am getting an education that sets me up for success in the future.

Q: What does being a Fighting Scot student-athlete mean to you?
A: It means giving your all for the friends and teammates around you.

Q: What are some of your favorite memories as a student at The College of Wooster?
A: My favorite memories are beating Wittenberg 8-0 in 2021 and any day I was able to play soccer with my friends.

Q: What is the best part about being a student-athlete at The College of Wooster?
A: The best part is the relationships you build with your teammates and coaches.

Q: What else were you involved with on campus besides your sport?
A: I am a member of the Student-Athlete Advisory Committee, am a campus sustainability intern, and part of the Spikeball Club.

Q: Which College of Wooster faculty or staff member has made the greatest impact on you and why?
A: Coach Andy Zidron has been one of the most supportive people I have ever met before. No matter what is happening, he is always smiling and ready to do anything to help us grow as both players and people.

Q: What other people or resources impacted your Wooster experience in a positive way and how did these people and resources set you up to be successful at Wooster?
A: Dr. Michelle Johnson and Dr. Matt Mariola have been extremely good guiding figures in discovering what I wanted to do for my majors at Wooster as well as once I eventually graduate. Their constant support has helped me fully appreciate my education at Wooster and instill hope in me for my future.

Q: Tell us a bit about your Independent Study project?
A: I am looking at message effectiveness on social media to see how scientists can best convey their findings.

Q: Tell us a bit about something cool you did as a student at The College of Wooster?
A: The two coolest things I did as a student were my study abroad semester in Granada, Spain, and the soccer team's trip to Cape Town, South Africa. Never in a million years did I imagine going to Wooster would allow me to visit and live in different continents, but I could not be more thankful for those experiences.

Q: Reflecting back on your time at Wooster, what advice would you give your first-year self?
A: I would tell myself to try and step out of my bubble as much as I can. It sounds corny, but opening yourself to new experiences and people can really help you grow as a person and find out who you are. If nothing else, it helps you find out what you do not like.
