First-year Shivam Dewan battled in the No. 5 flight for a 3-6, 7-6, 6-3 win.

The College of Wooster men's tennis team got its first win over Kenyon College since 1999 on Saturday, 5-4, and snapped a 28-match winning streak for the Lords against the Scots.

Kenyon (0-2), ranked 14th in last year's poll, found themselves tied with the Scots with the No. 5 and No. 6 singles flights still in play.

At No. 6, Wooster junior Nebyou Minassie won the first set tiebreaker and needed a third against Jacob Smith, 7-6 (3), 3-6, 6-4.

It was one of two three-set matches of the day, the prior coming in the No. 5 flight where first-year Shivam Dewan prevailed over Kenyon's Evan Dean 3-6, 7-6 (10), 6-3. Dewan fought back from an opening set loss, extended his match with a second set tiebreaker where he fought off multiple match points and won the final set to put Minassie in a position to give the Scots the win.

Both Dewan and Minassie dealt with cramps in their matches. However, Minassie came though by attacking the net even while down 3-1 in the third set, while Dewan succeeded in long rallies.

Wooster needed just three singles wins after opening 2-1 in doubles play. The No. 2 team of Minassie and Alex Drewes won 8-3, and the No. 3 team of Austin Hanna and Vakul Nath took an 8-5 win. Hanna and Nath were down an early break before coming back for their win.

The final singles win came from Hanna in the No. 2 flight. He knocked off Jack Wagner 6-1, 7-5.

At the No. 3 flight, Drewes fell 6-3, 6-4, while Nath fell at the No. 4 flight 7-5, 6-3.

Senior Joaquin Abos Amo fell 6-3, 6-4. He and Dewan also fell 8-0 in the No. 1 doubles flight.

Wooster's last win against Kenyon came in a 4-3 victory for a third place finish in the Great Lakes College Association Tournament. Wooster won the doubles point while Matt Riva, Jake Sintich and Andy Sharp clinched singles wins.

Wooster improves to 3-5 overall and 3-2 in the NCAC East. The two teams meet again Sunday at Kenyon.
