Abos Amos Collects Pair of Wins as Men's Tennis Drops Two Matches to CWRU

Senior Joaquin Abos Amo collected a pair of wins for Wooster on Sunday.

STOW, Ohio – The College of Wooster men's tennis team lost a pair of 8-1 matchups to Case Western Reserve on Sunday.

Senior Joaquin Abos Amo of helped the Scots to both points on the day. 

In the first match, Abos Amo survived a marathon of a tiebreaker in the second set of his No. 2 singles flight to win 7-5, 7-6 (11). He survived a number of set points in the match including being down 4-6 in the tiebreaker.

Abos Amo then teamed with junior Austin Hanna for Wooster's lone point in match two. The duo defeated Matthew Chen and Jonathan Powell 8-4 in the No. 1 flight.

Hanna and Abos Amo also lost 8-2 in match one. Hanna took a 6-0, 6-1 loss at the No. 1 singles flight in match one and fell at the No. 2 flight in match two after an abbreviated third set 3-6, 6-2, 1-0 (10-5).

Sophomore Alex Drewes had an interesting day as well. He teamed with Shivam Dewan in the No. 2 flight in both matches, falling 8-3 in match one and 8-0 in the second.

In singles play, Drewes fell to Chen 7-5, 6-0 in the No. 3 flight in the first match, and then moved to the No. 4 flight in match two to fall to Anthony Kanam 6-0, 7-6. Drewes and Kanam are both former Jackson Massillon (OH) players.

Elswhere in match two, Vakul Nath fell 6-2, 6-2 in the No. 5 flight. Nebyou Minassie took a 6-0, 6-3 loss at the No. 6 flight.

The Scots (3-8) travel to Oberlin College to wrap up the season on Saturday.
