Regionally-Ranked Scots Cruise Past Wabash

Kevin Si, Wooster Tennis CRAWFORDSVILLE, Indiana – The College of Wooster men's tennis team, which made its season debut in the Intercollegiate Tennis Association Central Region rankings in the most recent poll, lived up to the billing with an 8-1 win over Wabash College on Saturday.

Senior Alon Liberman, who earned an individual regional ranking in singles, helped break Saturday's tie in doubles. Liberman and classmate Austin Hanna won 8-5 at first doubles to break a 1-1 tie. Wooster (7-5) junior Alex Drewes and sophomore Kevin Si strung together an 8-3 win at third doubles, while sophomore Shivam Dewan and first-year Patrick Johnson dropped the second-flight match 8-2.

In singles, Hanna posted identical 6-2 scores in the second flight, and Drewes was next to shake hands, bringing Wooster to the verge of clinching with a 6-3, 6-1 win at No. 3. Liberman needed a tiebreaker to take set one from Wabash's (6-7) Cole Borden 7-6 (7). The regionally-ranked lineup anchor took charge from there, not dropping a game the rest of the way en route to a 6-0 second set.

The second wave of singles included a 6-0, 6-4 win for Dewan in the fourth flight, a 6-1, 6-1 line in favor of Johnson at No. 5, and a 6-2, 6-4 win for Si at the sixth position.

Wooster's weekend concludes with a stop at Wittenberg University (5-8) for a noon match on Sunday, April 3.
